335/30-18 tires are on, these things are huge

I finally got around to installing my new wheels and tires. I went with the fr500 wheels in 18 inch. I sent out my 18x10 rears to weld craft and had widened to 12.25 inches and then mounted BFG KDW 335/30-18's. I had to modify the upper shock mount and the lower mount to get clearance with correct ride hieght. The body is back off but they fit perfect and without any wheel spacers. all this tire fits under the car well. They measure 1.5 inches wider than the kumho 315's. what do you think?

I think you're bound to rub something! Show us some pics when the body is back on. That's a whole lot of wheel and tire under there. Sergio is the only other guy I know off-hand that has been running 335s on an FFR. CER has them standard equipment.

Nice tires but...

You better get some carbide runners on that sled. With that many studs it'll never turn.

(sorry. being Canadian)

Shelby........can't argue with the look...they are bad ass ....and sure look like they will hook up but in addition to the likely body rubbing you might want to reconsider the upper shock mount. I know pictures can be deceptive but your bolt hole looks pretty close to the edge. Anyway .....another idea is to move the shock tower to the inside of the frame....not only will it give you more clearance but you'll get some natural "progressive" movement....course then you will have to up your spring rates....

There was another member recently who made some serious body mods for 335's - you might want to consider something similar....... do it right now.... you'll be happy that you did... and those 335's will look as well as they perform

The upper shock mount has had material added and welded on the inside for strength. as far as body rub, there is no rub. They sit exactly where the outer edge of the 18x10 sits. I didn't modify that at all. All the width has been added to the inside of the wheels. There is absolutely no rubbing whatsoever.. they outside of the wheels/tire sits exactly where everyone else running 18x10's sits.

Fred, Maybe 235's front? If not your front tire is a heck of alot bigger than your rear one.

Call the tech guys at FFR and have your back spacing numbers and axle width. They may know...

They look great and should cut down on wheel spin tremendously. I have the same problem as Don. When I ran a fast AutoX I have equal rub marks on d/s and p/s inner wheel well aluminum.

I would be interested in how close they are to the back of the cockpit aluminum under compression. That is where my 315s are the closest to rubbing on the inside.

Yeah,
I've been running 335/35/17s for a few years now, no rubbing, no mods to the frame, but I did have to change the coilovers to stiffer, I had a very small rub on the driver side but the KONIs that I got from Gordon fixed that.

Mine are 17's but are just a tad taller than yours Shelby but they are the same width:

Comparison: Mine: (335/35/17) vs. Yours: (335/30/17)

Sergio.....first ....I've got to find some time to come see your car the next time I come down to Coronado Island..... always loved the look. I won't argue with your experience but you appear to have precious little room for suspension travel ......those springs must be super stiff !

..any chance you are rubbing but the tires are spinning so fast that you don't hear it ;)

Sergio, what width wheels are you running?

I have the width to run 335s on mine with the flared fenders, but given the lack of wheel options think I am going to stay with 315's for now and space them out just a bit like the coupe guys do.

Kinda reminds me of James Taylor's song "Steamroller"

Well I'm a steamroller baby
I wanna roll all over you
Yes I'm a steamroller for your love, babe
I'd like nothing better than to roll all over you

I measured approx 13.5" from shock tower mount to outter lip of body. A 335 MM tire = 13.189" and judging by the photo the tire is out at least an inch from the mount, I don't think it's gonna fit but Good luck.
