Any help on what to use to remove the random smudge of silicone from my powder coated panels. I know not to use acetone. I have tried naptha on the back and it seems to work without discoloration. Ideas??????
Thanks,

Henry.

I've used 3M adhesive remover to remove silicone. It takes a little while for it to start working, but it seems to actually break down the silicone. It shouldn't hurt powder coating either, but it's always a good idea to test a spot first.

The last time I bought 3M adhesive remover, the only local store that carried it was Napa. BTW some of the other adhesive removers are not the same formula as the 3M stuff and they don't work on silicone. Goo Gone seems to be similar to 3M and might work too, but I haven't actually tried it because I like the 3M stuff.

Once peeled off, try WD40. I've found WD40 works well removing stuff like antisieze from my black powder coating; try some on a remote, unseen surface first.

I've had very good luck with Goo Gone Spray Gel. Note specifically the gel product, not just the regular liquid. For whatever reason, I found it works better. I found it at Walmart, but I'm sure available elsewhere.

To the OP, I assume you mean cured vs. uncured? It may not work as well for cured. I did find that during assembly, before the silicone is cured, the referenced Goo Gone Spray Gel really knocks down and thoroughly cleans the uncured silicone. I use it to clean as I go during assembly. Works great. Many other products leave smudges behind or you have to wipe over and over.
