Does anyone have coverage in their policy for HPDE or other track events? If so, what does your insurance company charge for it?
Thanks,
John

John,

There is no insurance coverage for HPDE events. The reality of it is (and I tell this to all of my potential HPDE students) if you roll it(any car they are planning to bring to an event) into a ball, you had better be ready to walk away from the investment as there is no insurance company in the world that will cover your car while on the track.

Not necessarily true. If the HPDE is classified as a driving school, where you have instructors present with feedback/downloads, most regular insurance will cover it unless specifically stated otherwise. We have never had an HPDE insurance claim denied even for rental cars so long as driving on a racetrack wan not specifically prohibited. HPDE is not necessarily a speed contest and in most cases can be defined as instructional.

Most adjusters that call for clarification/information usually end up wanting to bring their own car out for some laps.

Who is your regular insurance carrier? I have AAA and I know ALL my cars are covered on the track for instructional purposes.

Liability coverage concerns me more for HPDE's. There was a recent lawsuit in CA involving a driver in an HPDE. Having raced in SCCA and IMSA for years you never worried about this because the waivers seemed to hold up and perhaps courts realized that participants were well aware of the inherent danger involved in full racing events. HPDE's seem to be a different bag concerning liability lawsuits. I'm not aware of any liability insurance available for HPDE's Is anyone?

I agree with Horz, As long as the policy is not specifically stating you can not drive it at a track you will be covered. It can't be a timed event(racing). I know 1 guy same insurance co. got two claims paid on two seperate occasions. One guy was taken away in an ambulance and his corvette towed away from the track and he was fully covered they totaled the vette, he broke a rib and was pretty beat up. I would read your policy carfully and then make you decision, I am sure if you call and ask they will say no, but I don't know anyone who has been denied coverage. Good luck, go fast be safe.

A friend of mine did around 18k damage to his M3 at turn 3 CMP a couple years ago. His insurance fixed the car and paid the $1800 worth of guard rail the track charged. It was not a "timed" event so they paid. I think every state/company/and policy is different. The link above sounds like a deal.

I see approximately 40-50 HPDE wreck's every year. Like I said, not one single claim denied for a school event. EVER. Single vehicle, multiple vehicle, non-injury, medivac, doesn't matter. Geico was the last company we dealt with and they were great!
