I've read her ethat the installation instructions from FFR are weak at best. True. I'm stuck. I've followed what little instructions I had and I have major clearance issues. I can't get the 8.8 axle to hook up to the shocks. take a look at the photos and let me know where I went wrong. Thanks...

The lower control arms can really go either way, but in a Mustang they should be mounted opposite what you have so the sway bar would bolt to the lower arms correctly.

The axle housing goes between the frame and the 3-link frame section on the driver's side as Rob states. Like this:

The rear end needs to go over the lower 3/4 inch brace on the left side. You need to thread the rear end through the triangle. Also it looks like you have reversed the left and right control arms. Hope this picture helps.

Big Wave, You've got to take off the 3 link bracket that attaches to the rear of the driver side main tube and swing the axel up into place and install the shocks and/or the limit straps to hold it. Then re-install the bracket. The axle locates above the bracket. You're right the instructions are lousy. Mine were almost unreadable. Rick

Four replys in four minutes (three with pictures). This has to be some kind of record...

Instruction do stink for the 3-link. I did mine the same way you did before I figured out the axle goes up through the hole made by the pan hard bar bracket.

Not sure if the picture helps, but it is from the right rear looking back through the top of the car at the axle through the bracket area.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replys. After posting, I had several beers and called it a day. I'll get the axle on top of that 3/4" brace and reverse the LCA's tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes...

Rod,

Looking at my photos, can you tell if I did anything else incorrectly? I printed off several photos from your 3 link install post and used them as a guide after total frustration with the FFR innstructions...

What I can see in the pics looks good so far. Just make sure when you tighten up all the bolts you have a minimum number of threads showing past the nut. Some say 2 threads but I go with the aerospace standard which is 3 (accounts for the fact that the first thread on a bolt is not fully developed).

Cheers, Rod

Everyone is right on the lower control arms should have the sway bar bracket on the outside. Some people put the control arms the opposite way as I did I am not going to run the sway bar. Good luck and have fun. Remember its your car build it your way!!!!

Rod, Rob, Mark, Scott and Rick; Thanks for your help. Went out and had it placed properly in one hour! All bolts are finger tight for now, I'll torque everything to spec and finish the install this week. This forum is just a life saver.

Darren,

Hang in there, I have about 18 items on backorder, including my front shocks, which is why I installed the 3 link this weekend.

FYI, if you're ging non-donor you're going to need to out-source the front LCA botls/nuts and the Strut bolts/nuts to hang the front end. I called Mark Reynolds @ Breeze and he knew exactly what I needed. Placed the order and I was covered.

FFR also told me the 5 goes to the rear. I think you have them on correctly.

I drilled all my aluminum panels while I waited for back orders. It wasn't fun but I was happy to get it behind me.

Great thread here guys. A definite addition to the "best of" list or FAQs.

I just started my 3 link prep while waiting for the rear LCAs.

You'd think someone would include a few more pics like these in their instructions.
