3 months on the road. Took the Roadster out for a cruise tonight after fixing some coolant seepage at some fittings. Cruisin along on a back country road doing about 60-65 MPH here in NC. As I pass by, some MORON decides to drive his mower acrossed his rock covered driveway with the blades slinging rocks all over the place including the side of the Roadster. GRRRRRRRR. I had my wife with me...she told me not to stop and cause trouble...

I think this might be a good place to put my emblems.

That sucks, but I think you've got a good idea. Find a decent emblem and put it over the spot. It'll probably fit right in.

As for why people are stupid.....it'll take a smarter man than I to figure out that problem.

That's called patina. You'll get a lot more. John O

Yeah, that stinks. But, you can keep it pristine, or you can drive it. Can't do both. Now that's it's been nicked, you won't worry about it. The first wound is the worst.

Yeah, I hear ya Bob. I choose to drive it. When it gets damaged due to my stupidity...ok. When it gets damaged due to other peoples stupidity, it's frustrating. This is actually my second chip. The first was a door slamming into the edge of my rear wheel well. That's an insurance claim because I saw it happen and the woman didn't deny doing it. Maybe I can get both fixed at the same time.

And he probably wonders why his mower doesn't cut the grass worth a s*** too.
Sorry about the damage to your paint, that sucks.

Regarding stupidity, it's all around......remember that half the people are below average.

When I mow my yard, I try to stop when cars pass by. When I blow the grass clippings into the street with my leaf blower, I stop when cars pass by. But, that's a 25MPH zone, not 60-65. I dunno that you can be all the angry at the dude; he has a right to mow his driveway if he wants to.

Sux you got the rock chip, but throw some touch-up in it, and be done with it. The more you get, the less they hurt when they happen.

Look at it this way. You can fix your paint but that guy is going to be stupid forever.

Sorry Bro.

I mow my back boulevard next to a 45 mph two-lane that's not all that busy. I hate it when I'm mowing right next to the curb and people don't have the courtesy to switch to the inside lane. What if I tripped or the mower did throw something....

So many people just don't care.

So that was you? Man, I'm a good shot! :)

Just joking! I'd hold off on painting it again until you get a few more of those dings/chips. If you're going to do the paint over, make it worth it.

Chips happen. See Langka.com for a great way to repair them.

Emblem sounds like a plan to me. i bought my car from the first builder in primer. Finally two yrs later had it painted. I had marked a bunch of stuff in pencil for the body shop to cover, fill or whatever. When I got it back i found out that FFR put two little dimples in the glass
(MkII) about where your rock hit is. To help us locate emblems apparantly. In flat primer i never saw them. in paint w/ clear they are definately there.Jeeeez! Need to order some emblems, so want to do a large volume purchase together so we can get a discount? ha ha!

That's just Nature's way of telling you that you should've painted it BLUE!

Sorry to hear about this. In all of my travels I have discovered that about 85% of ALL humans are just barely above animal status. The only thing putting them there is apposing thumbs, and I’m not so sure about the majority of them. I have Dogs smarter than a lot of people I’ve run across.
Hope this is the worst thing to happen to you and your car…

Guys, thanks for all the words and even some trash talk...it made me laugh. I guess I just felt the need to vent a bit. One thing that offended me though is MVM's comment...how dare you say I should have painted it blue! Everyone knows all cool Roadsters are of the red persuasion:evil::red:

It'll all turn out though. I have an insurance claim that I still need to complete for a door ding that I have. Luckily it's on the same side as this rock chip. Maybe I can talk Jeff at Whitbys to magically swing the spray gun over this chip and then we'll be as good as new!

Joe, if that was your house that I passed, I'll remember to go past at 70-75 MPH next time:D

That sucks , on this end of NC the "polite" gene runs very strong . Most actually stop and turn off the blades when ANY car comes. Stupidity on the other hand runs rampant . Let me correct the other thread. WE do save the stupid or at least try , easiest way to reduce the stupid ,raise the speed limit around schools. uhh did I say that shame on me ! Bob

respect

Man! I hear you! When I mow or use the weed trimmer, I allways look for on coming cars, wait untill they pass, just out of respect. some people just have no respect for other people's hard earned property.
I have been fortunate that my truck is parked in a large lot at work and everyone here respects each other, but when you go to Walmart,or any other public place, you take your chances. the four dings I have on my truck, came from my step-son's bike:angryfire: He is very interested in helping me build a cobra, I have warned him though, if he continues to leave dings on our cars he won't be allowed to help or ride in the cobra, thats the deal.
Sure I was mad, but he's a kid, and they do make mistakes. The wife is very excited about building the cobra and as of today, my boys are in the air on the way here to come live with me (just won my custody case:biggrinparty:) They too, are ready to get this game on!!! I hope to place my order next June/July and have it in my possession by August/September.
Have a good one everybody!:beerchug::beerchug:

You know while the car is a shame, what if that rock had bounced up a little and hit you or the passager? That is the issue in my eyes. Would that moron run his mower over the driveway with his family standing around?

Sure by definition, if it is not intentional it is an accident. But most accidents are preventable.

The guy mowing is responsible for projectiles just like a shooter and his bullet. Pretty hard to prove from the mower w/o an unbiased witness I would speculate.
It just boils down to trying to be a defensive driver just like riding a mc.

We have about 2000' of road frontage. Thankfully all forest....and rocks.

Relax!! All men and women that mow their yards are not "car guys". I try to pay attention to traffic when I'm mowing near the road in front of my house by pointing the discharge side away from the road but sometimes the sound of the mower does not let me hear an approaching car. I keep the blades on my mower sharp but have a gravel driveway about 1/4 mile long. My wife likes to mow and my son's favorite comment is "I see mom's planing the yard again". If you built you car to drive rather then shine this stuff happens.

My wife is Blonde

My wife pulled this same manuevor about 1 month ago with our mower on our tractor. I had just purchased a brand new Silverado, and it was in the driveway less than 24 hours and she decided to start the mower on the gravel driveway directly behind the brand new truck........result= chips on the tailgate. Oh well, it is a truck....
