Hydroboost Question

So, if I'm looking for a "Hydroboost", is it the Power Booster or the Master Cylinder...or both?? When I search for a 94 0r 95 on car-parts.com, no reference is made to "Hydroboost". It's either the Power Booster that comes up or the Master Cylinder. Hydroboost is not a choice.

Please enlighten me.

Thank you, Sergio! And thanks also for the new FAQ that you and Kerry are putting in place.

GT350ED,

When looking on car-part.com select power brake booster and 96-2004 mustangs. When the search comes up it will say hydraulic type in the parts description. Some yards sell with the master cylinder still on it, some will sell just the hyrdroboost portion without the master. Call the yard and make sure you are getting the assembly if that is what you want. If you just do a search on the master chances are it will not come with the booster assembly.

Domino is right on the money here...

Be sure that the yard includes the entire assembly in their quote. It is best if you can visit the yard in person to confirm that everything is there and that the parts are in good condition.

I found a particular yard on Car-part.com that is about 175 miles from our house. (sorry...it remains our secret..until our car is finished.) They had complete hydro boost assemblies for $35.
94-95 Mustang front spindles for $17 each.
4.5" bolt circle Mustang hubs for $20 each.

What Kathy and I did was take the touring bike with trunk and bags and make a one day ride to the yard, inspect the parts, load them on the bike and stop on the way back for a nice dinner at one of our favorite restaurants about 100 miles away. Total cost for the trip and dinner was less than having the parts shipped and we were able to cherry pick the best parts available.

Car-part.com can be a real resource...especially if you can find a yard in reasonable driving distance.

You can also research some of the business web site search engines for salvage yards who do not subscribe to Car-Part.com but who have their own web sites with search engines. Then look for local yards and compare their prices. Both methods have worked well for us.

When pulling the hydroboost unit:

Do you want the complete hydraulic lines or will we be having new lines made anyways so we can just have them cut?

(Not trying to hijack the thread)

Thanks,

Mike

I try to get as many of the original lines and hoses as possible. If it isn't cut, stripped or bent, it can be reused.

If you are getting a unit that has the ABS you want all of the lines, if not you can cut the brake lines off 4 or 5" after the proportioning valve at the master and the same distance from the flex lines at each wheel. New brake lines come with the kit.
