Around Oct 2nd, we're driving the FFR from South Carolina, across your beautiful state and on to Cape Cod. Minimal Interstate! Maximum countryside! No schedule! No reservations! Just adventure!

Current route will bring us into Harrisburg on Highway 15 and I'm wondering where to go from there.

Any benefit to following the river via Highway 11/15 and picking up I-80 near Berwick? I guess I'm asking if the drive along the river is worth the effort?

From I-80, I planned exiting near Stroudsburg and take Highway 209 through the Delaware Water Gap National Rec. Area. Any comments about that route?

Any, MUST SEEs for the wife and I along those routes?

Thanks for your input for our trip.

take 15 north to Milton and jump on 80.
Nothing special to see just following the river is nicer ride than cutting over to Berwick on back road. 45 min longer going to Milton. Either way no major tourist attractions. Del water gap is ok.

I'll think about it and get back to you but here are some fast thoughts. The river drive along the Susquehanna is really not worth it.
Check out Carlileis web site http://www.carsatcarlisle.com/guest/directions_ride.asp
So come up to Harrisburg try the carlie ride as far east as you can get, come through Amish country visiting Blue Ball, Pa or Intercourse, PA. Check out some amish horse and buggy riders. Then head to the western side of Philadelphia to see the horse counrty, rollign hills and some of the best driving roads around. ( At this point you are 15 minutes from our build and would welcome a visitor to see a completed car, discuss build stories and fuel your belly. The head north into bucks couny for cover bridge tour and fall colors. A ride along the Delaware River to the Gap is Well just darn perfect. On to New Jersey. Someone else will pick up from there.

You asked!!

Hey, you might see good fall foilage if you go up through State College, home of Penn State, that's a good drive. You could go 15 to PA 94 south of Harrisburg through Carlilse, then go up PA 74 to US 322. Or go to US 322 in Harrisburg then up to State College, it's a little back track on your way up to 80, but it's a good drive. But once you get to State College, it's short trip to 80. You could take a cruise by Penn State, neat place. Or you could come see me, maybe I should be ready to start it up by then

but that would be a boring drive unless you like amish country on the way here

If you do come near, stop by or spend the night if you need to, have garage space and spare bedroom. Hope you have a GREAT TRIP!!!! Take pics!! I need motivation

I'm not sure about directions to FFR from PA, but if your even near Gettysburg/Lancaster, it is well worth it to stop and visit these two areas. Gettysburg for the history and Lancaster for the food and beautiful country, you won't be disappointed.

Might want to consider staying on 15 all the way up through Williamsport (home of the Little League World Series) and up to Mansfield. Cut west on US 6 into Wellsboro, a pretty little town that still has some real gas lighted streets. There is an old hotel in town along with a motel or two. There is a decent steak house across the street from the old hotel. The main street is about three blocks long and an enjoyable walk. If you stay overnight in Wellsboro, have breakfast at the railroad diner car on the corner across from the grocery store. Everytime we visit Wellsboro, my wife insists we have breakfast there. You can then turn around and head east on US 6 which eventually take you within a mile or two of Factory Five in Wareham.

BTW: Several years ago one of the car magazines (Road and Track, I think) listed US 6 across PA as one of the top ten driving roads in the US.

Oh, one more thing: If you decide to take I-80 east, US 209 along the Delaware is a pretty drive. I hunt on the PA side of the Water Gap a lot. Traffic will be somewhat heavy on weekends. Avoid Business 209 and take 209. US 209 is the Marshalls Creek exit, next to last exit in PA before you get to NJ. There is a great flea market north of Stroudsburg about 1 mile north of where US 209 and Business 209 come back together. PM me if you would like any specific about the area as I spend a great deal of time there.

If you come up on a much more easternly trek in PA, I'm just north of Eason on the Delaware. Many great roads I ride my Motorcycle on.

Awoke this morning in the NC mountains to 40 degrees, BURRR.

For the trip we'll have the HardTop on and the Heater cranked up full blast, a lap blanket for the wife and as much warm clothing as we Southerners are known to own.

Devin our PAS (Pothole Avoidance System) is currently set to 50%....that means we hit about half of them here in the Carolinas. I'll see if I can adjust the system before we head North.

Great info, guys. Thank You, very much.
I'll do some more map study and research tonight. With minimal Interstate time, we're anticipating three days to the Cape regardless of the route, so there is some leeway in route.

Any others.....comments welcome.

If you have the time, why not travel on over to Ashville North Carolina, get on the Blue Ridge Parkway, take it all the way to the Sky Line Drive. Follow the Sky Line Drive up to Front Royal in Virginia. This might take you out of your direct path but I guarantee you that you will love every minute of it. Breathtakingly beautiful scenery. We drove our Cobra the length of Sky Line Drive and stay at Sky Lodge overnight. Great memories. Bill.

From Harrisburg, its a little more scenic to take 147 up the other side of the river through the small towns... 11-15 has gone 4 lanes and a little hectic with the trucks... (I ride my bike along this route) Rejoin 11-15 up by Sunbury.

Must see: Hershey PA (Hershey Chocolate Factory), Lancaster (Amish Country), Gettysburg (on 11/15 near MD/PA line) Rickets Glenn State park water falls (little north of 80), Millersburg Ferry, very old, very cool. (maybe not for low ground clearance of car)

"Big" Mark, is that you? I told Kay you had moved on up. She remembers you from VIR and was disappointed you wouldn't be at the factory.

We were out this evening and I told her of member's offers to stop by, visit, look at cars or even spend the night. What a great place the Forum is when folks offer all manner of things to complete strangers. How cool is that?

So many options. Plus we get to come back down through Pa to get back home. We shall see as I finish our planning over the next few days!

Bill, I'll give that 147 route some study. Sounds like what we're after either coming or going.

I'm excited.
