Hey guys,

I am wanting the deepest dish rear wheel that will go into the Roadster. For all of you guys that have worked in depth on rear end work on these cars; Is there something that needs or can even be done to allow for a wider rear wheel or make for a deeper dish rear wheel. I would really like to try to get that classic 911 deep dish wheel look. I dont know if its even possible but It would look great on this car. Mustang wheels just arent going to cut it for me. All due respect for the pony guys.

I would like to use a 18 but will go 17 as well but have hear everything from people using 11.5 down to 9 inch wide rear wheels.

For all you "wheel guys" is there something we can ask for from wheel manufactures that will provide the most dish or lip on the street side of the car. i.e. offset or milling type or milling specs?

Thanks!

You need to go with pin drive width to get the deep dish look. The tires will be the same size, the offset is what you're looking for.

When you say Pin Drive width.....Thats great but I dont like pin drive wheels. What are the specs on the pin drive? Arent they 15s? I know you can probably have them cut by someone in a bigger wheel but what is the width spec on a pin drive etc etc..

Thanks!

Pin drive width doesn't mean pin drive wheels. You just order the roadster with IRS and pin drive width specs. You can use regular 5 lug wheels with a different offset. Of course spending $3-4k just so you can buy deep dish wheels if you didn't want IRS in the first place is kinda spendy. If you wanted IRS then all you have to do is requested pin drive width.

For deep dish you need to go pin drive width setup. You can do either pin drive rims or 5 lugs. I did 5 lugs, 17" rims with lug covers to fit around the cobra r brakes.

These are Team III Wheels with a 1/2 polish on them:

If you go solid axel, you can have that shortened to pin drive width also.

Call Richard Oben, from North Racecars (vendor here). He will set you straight. He is THE guy when it comes to getting proper fit for wheels on your FFR. He sells Team III and PSE among other brands of wheels.

another option is to open up the rear wheelwell and flair it a bit more. It all depends on the look you want and how close to original. I bet you could pick up an extra inch or two without making it look horrible.

JOE NOW YOU ARE TALKING WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR! SOMEONE TALKING MY LANGUAGE!! ALRIGHT BABY! What Width are those...GEEZ!!

I am considering custom made Lexani wheels if I can get them wide enough. I want some real rubber on the rear. Just like these pics. WOW!

Before you spend your money...

Calculate the wheel backspace required to get the deep dish look on pin drive widths.

Unless you are willing to pay for custom wheels also, you may not find the wheel style you like in the required backspace.

I did the same on my Coupe. There were not so many choices for 15 X 10.5" wheels with 3 3/8" backspace. (but I was searching about 3 years ago)

Choices may be better with 17 or 18 inch wheels but I was going for a more "old school" look.

You can narrow a solid axle 2.5" on a side and retain the stock 4 link or 3 link setup without modification. The normal backspace for a 10.5" wheel for a Fox width axle is 6.8" and subtract the 2.5" for your rear narrowing and thats what you would get for backspace (4.3"). Team III makes custom backspace wheels in a Halibrand style, Iforged will make anything you want, Fikse or HRE as well. All big buck wheels. I am running 17X10.5" Bullitts and they have a decent lip, below is a picture. I am planning on narrowing so I will have to step up to a custom wheel. I am thinking about the Vintage Wheel V-48 its a Trans Am (racing not Bandit) style wheel. Good Luck with it.

OK these aren't as deep dish as the ones Joe pic'd above but they are just stock Fox width everything and so they are cheap.
315s on 10.5x17 on my MkI

it just depends how many thousands $ you want to spend to get from my pics to joes pics.
