I'm no expert but have heated and bent alot of stuff like that over the years. Guys have been doing the same to steering arms and front axles since the beginnings of hot rodding so I think you'd be safe doing it to a pretty much non critical part like that.

 

I have a shifter handle that I heated and bent for use on my 68 Barracuda. The bend is just above the two mounting holes where it will see more stress than where you plan to bend yours. It has been on the car for over 20 years and close to 100,000 miles with no issues.

Rich, I'm just going by what the manufacturer said. They said it was forged and heat treated. Also stated that modification could be difficult. We'll give it a shot. Jmamble7

 

It's going to take a hell of a lot of heat; i.e. red hot.

I just did this on a brake pedal shaft. Torched to red hot and hit it with a hammer. Works fine.
