we just had a discussion like this one on azmustangs.com, turns out my bad optima wasn't a fluke and in general, over half of the crowd had bad optimas after they lost their charge once or twice (including reds and yellows). I for one will not be using Optimas any longer.
I've had a yellow Optima for about five years now, and it's on its second car. It's been drawn down several times, and always come back to life using a slow charge. They don't like fast charge cycles. You should also use a float charger to keep it fully charged. This type of charger cycles of and on as it's needed. I got my charger at www.batterybutler.com
