Just put my water pump on, it is a std rot, std flow FMS. I put RTV around the flow openings on both sides of the gasket, but nothing on the pump gasket that is between the pump housing and the stamped back plate. Since it was already assembled, I assumed it was good to go, but now am wondering if it should get RTV as well...

I didn't RTV the pump side gasket and I haven't run into any leaks yet (after maybe 10 miles of go-karting). If you already have it installed then you may want to see if it leaks first before tearing it apart again. If I were doing it over again I would probably RTV both gaskets just to be safe.
