Seting roller rockers.

Finished installing the heads on the block.
Now installing pushrods and setting roller rockers.
I am using roller lifters and TFS 1.6 roller rockers. Is this the propper procedure?

1. Make sure push rods are seated correctly in lifter and rocker arms. Make sure the lifter is down all the way. This is done by having the opposet lifter on the same cylinder opening.

2. Tighten nut on rocker by hand until the pushrod is tight/snug.

3. Now with a box wrench make a 1/2-1 turn.

4. With a allen wrench tighten the inside the adjuster.

5. With the allen wrench in place tighten the the adjuster nut with the box wrench.

I looked at comp cams instalation guide.
I just want to make sure I understand it correctly.

Close. When using quality parts and assembly lube, everything moves easily. Even if you crank down on the lifters, you'll still be able to turn the pushrods with your fingers. Especially if the lifters are new and havn't pumped up yet.

I tighten down the rocker arm nut with my fingers. As soon as you hit zero lash, you'll feel it in your fingers. Add another 1/4-1/2 turn after that.

Adjust the exhaust when the intake is 2/3 of the way to closing

Adjust the intake when the exhaust is halfway to open.

Are these new roller lifters wiithout oil in them? If so, there is a more exact way to set them. It's called the collasped lifter procedure. Basically, what you do is rotate the crank so that the lifter is on the base circle of the cam. Push on the pushrod end of the rocker so you collapse the plunger inside the lifter. Then measure the clearance between the rocker and the valve stem. The specs vary somewhat depending on the year of the engine, but it's usually around 0.090 clearance between the valve stem and the rocker tip. This will put the lifter plunger in the center of its travel. As for tighting poly locks, when you hold the allen screw, only turn the body of the nut not more than 1/4 turn. Also, if you are not using ARP rocker studs, inspect the ends of the studs for a raised ridge where the threads form. It should be flat. If it's not flat, it can lead to the rockers coming loose. ARP rocker studs have the ends ground flat to prevent this.
