My $600 DIY Trailer Enclosure

I looked at the SE option and they are very nice quality pieces, but decided to experiment and build a custom enclosure myself. I just trailered my Roadster 500 miles this weekend on the freeway and it did fantastic! Jeep towed it like nothing was there. Total cost = $600

  • 1" EMT Conduit from Home Depot. ($6.50/10ft ... used 10 sections) = $65
  • 1" Corner Fittings online (Am I allowed to post link?) ~ $120
  • Custom Enclosure Tarp -Heavy Duty 18.5 oz Vinyl (Am I allowed to post link?) = $375
  • Ratchet Straps from Home Depot ($4/each ... used 10) = $40
  • Misc Wire Cable ... insignificant cost

Again, the material is extremely durable stuff, same stuff tractor trailers use. In the photo, I don't have the straps tightened down but once I do so, the material is tight like a drum even at 65mph.

You can see I have a hand-crank winch and I just pulled the Roadster right up. Best part about the winch is it automatically centers the car perfectly and don't have to deal with crawling out in a confined space.

P.S. - I did slightly lower the front about 1-2" below the rear to aide in rain runoff. It thunder-stormed all last night and this morning there was no water collected on the roof.
