Where do you guys get the body filler. I went to my local NAPA store and the only way he can get me 3M HSRF is in a case of 6 qts at $40 a Qt. I even called a couple marine repair shops and they don't have it at all. But I did fnd a web site that sells HSRG.
Also, the local paint store can get me Rage Gold, but it comes only in gallons for $38 and I don't think I'm going to need that much.
Is there anything else I can use that is just as good as these products?
Hope you can help, Bill

I wouldnt go brand crazy. I would bet that rage gold comes in a huge tanker and is bought by numerous suppliers and relabelled as their own. Kidding, but if it wasnt available I am sure body work will still be done. The bondo line of fillers are top notch and its a 3M product. I use the premium for the majority of work and the ultimate as a final skim coat. It spreads like butter. I stay away from finishing putties and use the ultimate in its place. The putties have huge incompatibility issues from what I have seen. I got a gallon on vinyester resin and mixed in short strand fiber to make the parting line backfill. The rest came in handy for laminating and building extra bits out of fiber mat. I went through the whole gallon. Worked for me. Good luck. Check out a local autobody supply company. They usually have great advice.

Bill- I would NOT scrimp on the quality of the body fillers- by the Rage Gold or you will notice it later. Even if you have to buy the full gallon do it!! It is cheap insurance (think of what it would cost to redo the car later!! YIKES!- a heck of a lot more than $38 ).

You can even use it around the house also. I repaired a portion of a wood floor by a leaky door once with it, I KNOW it will not rot, even if it should get wet (although I DID repair the leak)!! And when I epoxyed my garage floor I filled in a few gouges with it- works great!

I am suprised that a marine store does not stock any 3M HSRF in the small cans for individual sale?? Any body shops around that might use it and know of a supplier that will sell ONE can?? If not buy it online- heck I did that with a gallon of Rage Gold once.

Do not skimp on the body filler. I used Dura glass and cuz on mine and once it sat in the sun I can see slight bumps on the seams. You have to look close to see it but it irritates me every time I look at the car. I paid more for the paint job on this car then I did for my 70 Corvette (which I still have but it's red now with a $400 paint job) !!!!
I still want to come see your car but our e-mail is is doing something funky right now with a new virus scan and I can not send or recieve e-mail, go figure??

Cone basher is right. Use the best body filler. Rage gold or extreme work well. If you skimp you will see shrinking, etc. a six months down the road. You'll also be surprised how much filler you will use,by the time you fill low areas sand and fill again and repeat until straight. Under the nose you can use a gallon alone. We used 3 gallons on my gray bodied coupe. Of course we sanded 90% of it off.

Cone basher,
I sent you an email last week with some cobra info and questions. If you did not get it let me know and I can sent it to you again when you get your computer fixed.

This is a black body, and we're going with undercoating on the inside of the nose so we didn't go crazy there. Even still, we are being careful laying it down so we don't need to sand 90% off. That's the key.

Bill,

I've built a number fo street rods and also numerious boat repairs working with fiberglass the product that I use is Zebra I think that 3M makes it. I just picked up my coupe last week, and eventhough the body is very nice you will be using alot more than you think. If you want the body to be flawless you should look into a good spray "mud" I use this on the street rods that I build a great product.
