Compression fittings are not approved for brake systems. Either Single or Double flare, unless it's one of those really high end compression fittings you find on the newer aircraft, but those are cost prohibitive.

Thanks Hank,It was a bad suggestion from a local parts store.

 

NO, to compression/single flare on steel tubing. It takes some practice to make a good double flare, but your (and probably someone else's) life depend on them. There are some good how-to's online for doing flares. Take a length of extra tubing and play for awhile.

You can buy preflared lines in so many different lengths that you should be able to find a line that works for pretty much any distance. You can connect a couple together with couplings. I just finished my lines today. Just get creative if you have a little too much line

 

Doing a good double flare depends a lot on first having a quality tool, cutting an reaming the tubin square and using lubrication during the process.

If you have a cheap tool, you will never really get them right. Invest in a good one or the preflared lines.

Per the above, the compression fittings are out, especially if they are the cheap single ferrule ones. Best to go with the approved automotive process.

 

Hi there, there is a company called Swagelok who sell compression type fittings they are rated to 5,000- 6,000 psi in stainless steel. i have used these on many hydraulic line setups including brake lines and have never had a failure. just follow there instructions on how to install.
