Guys:

Need some advice.

Have 99 GT PBR front calipers with 11" rotors from Breeze. The hole for the banjo bolt on the left front caliper is stripped. Planning on running a manual mustang brake setup with 15/16" master cylinder. I have the 17"x 9" Halibrands from FFR on the front.

Options that I can think of:

1. Drill out and use a thread repair kit like Helicoil. (is this safe...will the bolt seal - I think so, since seal is from copper gasket, but I don't know... will debris in the caliper cause brake malfunction???)
2. Replace the caliper with same model - might be hard to find...
3. Upgrade to "better" caliper...which probably also means bigger rotor etc. and bigger cost. This is not my preferred option but I am willing to be convinced.

Any other options? Opinions?

Thanks

Rick

How about exchanging it for a reman. one at the local parts store? I would definetly be concerned about debris getting in the caliper if you didn't disassemble it before hand, but a helicoil should work otherwise. Just not sure I would take a chance on it.

I've got about 8000+ miles on a helicoil repair on my PBR. Still has not leaked.

Same thing happened to me. The size heli coil you need is a difficult one to get. So I sent it back to breeze no broblem. I hear this is a common issue with re-man alum. calipers. Of course breeze said this never happens. He still made good no problem. Are you sure of the year of that caliper? Mine is 2003 and I think thats the one you might have.

I'd recommend swapping it for a reman - should be sub-$100 with the core swap.

I used junkyard calipers, and after the strip/clean/flush/paint I would have been WAY ahead with buying reman!

Thanks guys.

I found a fairly cheap caliper locally so I am swapping out, and I'll be extra careful putting the banjo bolt in.

Because we are north of the border the hassle of getting a part back to Breeze and then back here might take some time and dollars. With the discount for the core return locally, should be a wash.

Appreciate the thoughts.
