For those of you on the road, does the shaft that the steering wheel mounts on, sit flush with the hub of the steering wheel?

I have actually bent the washer trying to tighten mine down, and it does not want to fit all the way in. Before i file on it, I wondered how others had delt with this?

Thanks,

If I understand you, does the hub press all the way on the shaft so the washer contacts the end of the shaft as well as the hub face?

No. It should be tight well before that point. So tight in fact that the hub is hard to get off if you remove the bolt.

Hozr,

It is tight before the washer contacts the steering shaft. I was concerned if this was correct or not? The washer never contacts the hub, and shaft.

Thanks,

Thats what you want. The hub should be tight on the shaft with or without the washer and bolt. The shaft should be recessed in the hub a little bit at that point so the washer DOES NOT contact the shaft, just the hub.

You're good to go.

My guess is your bolt is bottoming out in the steering shaft before the washer contacts the hub face. Try a shorter bolt or chase the shaft threads. The washer should contact the hub face. HTH, Karl

You might want to use a grade 8 washer or a thicker washer, like a spacer so it doesn't colapse when tightened.

My washer calapsed, but because my steering hub is a very tight fit, I just left it on there.
