I disagree. Sort of. A list? No. But sharing your experience/information? Well, consider that the primary purpose of this forum, as I have been led to believe form Bill and many others, is to help folks building their FFRs. If someone has information about a local service provider, for whatever it is that person needs for his/her FFR, not being able to post it here would actually HINDER someone from finishing their car.
I'm not saying that every company that paints cars or sells parts should be able to come in and advertise their service by posting replies, but if someone has experience with a vendor that doesn't happen to be an advertiser here, what is the harm? Doesn't the sharing of experiences, good or bad, help people make better decisions on how to spend their money, which in turn incentivizes the supporting vendors to maintain their high standards of quality and customer service?
Is it really the forum's position that unless someone is a supporting vendor, then any information about them cannot be posted and/or discussed here? That seems to be counterintuitive to the reason this forum exists. And if indeed that is the case, the moderators should be going over a whole bunch of posts and deleting references and warning/banning people for posting information on those "outlaw" vedors.
Seriously, I think the point is to prevent vendors that are not paid advertisers here from making "backdoor" advertisements for services. If someone isn't predisposed to ship his car half-way across the country just to patronize a supporting vendor, they're not going to do it, and if someone else is, that's what they will do. I think the supporting vendors' ads speak for themselves, and I have used some of them myself, and they rock! But if there is an alternative that caters to someone that can't afford those vendors, for money, time, whatever, and a forum member knows one that could help, it would be a shame if we couldn't share that information.
Again, if sharing you personal experience with non-supprting vendors is a no-no, then I am guilty of violating the rules, and so are many, many others. With all of the complaining about certain peoples' behavior going around right now, and without casting stones, I think everyone could benefit from settling down and stop trying to control every aspect of what goes on here. It is becoming an increasingly common occurrance, and increasinly irritating and counterproductive, to read posts about how one person feels someone else isn't following the rules. I have read the rules. I try to abide by them as best I can. I think most folks do the same. If I make a mistake, I expect to be notified. If someone else does, it's really none of my business. It's the moderators' business.
Reasonability - 1. intelligent, judicious, wise, equitable. Reasonable, rational, refering to the faculty of reasoning. Rational can refer to the reasoning faculty itself or to something derived from that faculty: rational powers; a rational analysis. It can also mean sane or sensible: She was no longer rational; a rational plan. Reasonable most often means sensible: A reasonable supposition is one which appeals to our common sense. 2. equitable, fair, just.
Can we get some of that, please? Don't the moderators, and Bill, have enough to worry about already?
