Phillips,
Most do not apply the static cling meatballs correctly. They will stay on above 130MPH but not in the rain.
1. Static cling should be applied on warm sunny days a day or two before going to a show or the track. Avoid the cold and use of anti-static waxes. Do not wet meatballs while on their paper backer.
2. The body surface should be clean, if not, clean and wax surface. Again DO NOT use anti-static wax.
3. Use a spray bottle filled with water and 1 drop clear Ivory Snow liquid dish soap, wet the area surface and the back (white side) of the vinyl. Place the ball on the surface and gently smooth all the vinyl surface to the body using your hands. Position vinyl to desired position.
NOTE: The more water you remove from between the car surface and the vinyl, the harder it is to move. If you removed too much water, simply peel back a little and spray some more water on the surface.
5. Hold the ball in chosen position. With the other, slowly and lightly begin forcing water and air bubbles from between the vinyl and surface using a SOFT rubber squeegee or rubber roller. Do this from the center outward.
Repeat the movements applying more and more pressure, paying attention to air bubbles. If you mess up, simply peel back, apply water and do again. For best adhesion, allow the vinyl to dry overnight. Common mistake: applying on a cold morning, at the track, just before going out.
When properly applied this stuff looks great and it sticks! When done poorly it looks like blistered paint and doesn’t stay long at high speed. Extreme weather conditions should be avoided. Do not use heat to apply.....since any glued on numbers will come off.
6. The vinyl can be treated like paint. It can be washed and waxed. Of course care should be taken not to deal roughly at the edges, especially the acute angle edges. Should an acute angle edge come up, wet surface with a little "spit" and press down.
7. If dirt and wax accumulates at the edges of the vinyl, the meatball needs to be be removed periodically and the area cleaned/waxed to prevent gas build up in the sun which can lift the vinyl and cause possible paint blemish.
Works every time, I've never lost one and, unless you're a purist FIA type dude with all the stickers on it for good, after removing your meatballs you'll have that neat clean look.
