Engine wont start - Starter just spins

I have my engine and trans all installed and finally got the electrical done to try to turn over the engine and the starter just spins freely....

This is what I have installed:
302 out of Ford Explorer converted to carb
1986-1993 SBF 302 Flywheel....or so the guy told me...
The transmission in the pictures
Mini-Starter for 86-95 manual transmission
Standard clutch fork
Fortes hydraulic clutch

To top all of this off, I have Fortes blue hydraulic pull clutch and it is sticking in the full pulled back position and is not budging....

Any help on this would be great and I am feeling like I need some forward progress....

Thanks,
Jared

Can you get a pic of how you wired your starter? sounds like the gear not engaging.

Your starter is not engageing the flywheel...You will probably need one of several things...
It is possible that there is not enough amperage for the starter solenoid to fully engage. If that is not the problem, you can repostition the starter , closer to the flywheel...If not possible, then you either need a larger drive gear on your starter, or a different starter altogether...The standard flywheel for your tranny has 157 teeth....The easiest thing to do, is return your starter, and get a standard one.
One note, even though you are using a mini-starter, you should also have a separate starter relay in the circuit...

Take a picture or do a drawing of how you have the starter itself wired up.

If the starter just spins free and the engine it may be wired wrong..

...edit...

That;s what happens when I enter the msg and don't click send for 45 minutes...

Measure the depth from the face of the bellhousing where the starter mounts and the edge of the flywheel ring gear. Make sure that the ring gear has all it's teeth! ((hey don't laught - it's been known to happen))

I had a similiar problem. A friend of mine purchased a starter from a vendor at an event for me. It was for a " manual trans " small block. Actually it was for a 289 era manual trans small block. The 5.0 uses the same starter for auto or 5-spd. You may want to check this.Just thought I'd mention this.

Assuming (big word), that you have the correct bell housing, any standard 5.0 starter from 89 to 93 should work fine...Just ask , when you pick it up, if you can return it if it's the wrong size....Any chance of getting a picture of the starter mount on the bell housing , with the starter out?

As mentioned above, pull the starter and take a few measurements/pictures before just buying parts willy nilly...

Measure from the block plate IN to the flywheel ring gear and measure from the starter mounting lip to the starter drive gear (with the gear extended) and see if the measurements are the same (indicating the gear is extending to reach the flywheel)...

Also note the starter drive location relative to the flywheel edge, it may be too far away (wrong starter and/or wrong block plate). We need some pics of the starter opening in the block plate so we can see the location, the flywheel, etc.

HTH...
