You should have seen the '58 Vette at the local car show tonight. I could not believe how bad it was. The rear deck lid had almost 1/2" gap on one side and at least 5/16" on the other side and was not even close to being even all the way around. The hood was better but the gap still varied from about almost a zero fit to maybe 5/16". The panels had mismatched curves in relation to the body too. It was a really nice car but I was suprised. It sure made me feel good about the body panel fitment on my car.

On another note I don't mean to brag (but I guess I might be), I've been to 2 small local car shows and have had at least a dozen people compliment me on the paint job and they all asked who I had paint it. :D I still don't think it's all that good but I guess most others are impressed. They're especially amazed when I tell them it's my first paint job and I painted it out in front of my garage. OK so maybe I'm a little puffed up. :D :D

Oh well I think we all deserve a little bit of that. I mean we built a freakin car. :D

I was at our local car show yesterday. It's a great feeling when there's people surrounding your car. What made it really nice was that there was a nice '59 Vette beside me and a beautiful '64 Vette behind me, and they were all standing around my car :D . The only bad part was that it was participant voting only (no spectator voting) so the good-ol-boys and vote traders took home the trophies. I swear some of those guys could bring in a derby car and take home a trophy.

Had the '58 vette had any body work done? It's a shame that the body lines were so bad on a car like that, but on the other hand, they were bad on all Chevy cars in those years. First gen. Camaro's are notorious for horrible lines.

Greg, I feel your pain. I keep going to the local shows put on by the only hot rod club in town. Two weeks ago I was beat out of a Top 100 award by the likes of 2001 Mustangs and such. The good ole boy network in the south is strong. They won't even invite me into the club because they say my car isn't a true hot rod.

I am finishing up a 71' Stingray right now and the first Restoration book I read admitted to the fact that these cars were far from perfect. They had a minimal paint job and the seams were not perfect. Of course, I wanted my body man to make it look as good as possible--so much for concours!! Don't worry about the good old boy mentality--what goes around comes around. Challenge them to a friendly run down the quarter-mile at your local track. Put up or shut-up I always say. :D Tim

Lee,

Of course yours isn't a Hot Rod. It's an old Rebodied VW, Racecar WannaBe :D

It just happens to have it's own Frame and would kick if not everybodies, then most everybodies arse out there.

I need to get my arse working on my car. It's been two weeks since I've lifted a wrench. But when I get mine done I'll have to make a trip over to the Big Easy and stop by and visit.

teamfour,
Stopped showing the COBRAs in the aerly 90's, for the same reason, it was viewed as a kit car, but they even treated their own kind bad if their body was glass and not STEEL, now that the old steel has all but disappeared, the glass, 32's, 34's, and so on are accepted. But nnnooooo, still to the COBRA's JUST ANOTHER KIT! Let's face it, they see us as a growing threat in their showoff ballpark. Takes a good rod for the girls to wwooooo over, but the COBRA, everytime will draw the girls, adding to the rodder's frustration on this.

Grumpy,
Good point.
I have recieved offers and had opportunities with women that I know for a fact would not have been if driving something else. Sad, but true.....well, not so sad!! :D

Disclaimer;
In no way shape or form did I take part in any of the activity stated above. All offers/opportunities were politely declined!

Two weekends ago a friend of mine with a very nice "Arrest Me Red" '98 C5 'Vette invited me up to his neck of the woods for a local car show. After driving the last 20 minutes in the rain I pulled in his wife's side of the garage and wiped it off. When the roads dried we went to the show. First of all he couldn't believe the attention my car got and he didn't right next to me.
We bought some 50/50s and decided to hang around for the drawing which was the last thing they did. As they started to hand out the trophies he excused himself for a nature call. While away they announced my class and I WON. He was dumbfounded. How can a "kit" car win and such a nice "cookie cutter" C5 not. I just smiled and thanked him for the invite.

I've been to 2 car shows and the latest one did not give out trophies, it was just a gathering. The first one I went to did and I got beat out by a not very nice Chevy II. It was a nice car but in all honesty mine is nicer and was getting WAY more attention. They have lots of friends that come with them and vote for them. I also lost out 1st runner up in 70 and older catogory to a 95 Camaro. When they realized what happened they went a head and took my picture and named me runner up but it was pretty much after the show was over and the lady running it really liked my car and felt bad. Oh well.
Really most everyone has had nothing but good things to say. I've only had one or two not very good comments about it so I'm liking that. Don't think I could handle people potty mouthing it 'cause it's a kit. I will go off on them if need be.
