I'm running 275-40-17 tires,3.27 gears and a 92 t5 trans. I have the black speedo gear on the end of the speedo cable. The speed is slow by 10 to 12 mph at 70 mph.At 70mph I'm running about 2100-2200 rpms and the gauge is showing about 58mph to 60 mph.Which color gear do I need to correct it? According to http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/t5speedo.asp you best match is a 7 tooth drive gear for the trans, and a 18 tooth driven gear for the speedo cable. Unfortunately, this will require the removal of the transmission tailshaft housing in order to change out the drive gear, as you probably have an 8 tooth drive gear in it now. It's not difficult to change the drive gear, but the transmission will have to be removed from the car to do it.

HiRoger,
The 18 tooth is for the 7 tooth drive gear.
The 90-95 Factory T-5 has an 8 tooth drive gear. With that and 275-40-17 you'll need a 20.5 tooth gear. I would install the 20 tooth gear so it reads a bit higher.

I've got a few more questions. I've got the black speedo gear in my car now. That should be a 20 tooth gear. The speedo reads about 10mph slow.I'm thinking maybe the trans guy put the 7 tooth gear in the trans when he redid the trans.Would that make the speedo read 10mph slow with the black 20 tooth gear?If so then I would need the 18 tooth yellow gear.Any imput? Roger
