Ok, I'm starting the wiring. I have a MkIII with FFR Carb Wiring kit from American Autowire. Engine/Trany are not in yet. (see different post)

The first instruction says "Mount fuse panel".
The second says "Route the fuse panel harness in dash area"

Ok the FFR fuse box "mounting plate" looks about worthless. Neither hole pattern fits the AA fuse panel. Looks like I'll have to make my own mount plate, which is ok. I can do that.

Questions:

A. The FFR manual mounting location (between the left 3/4" pedal box mount and the winshield mount plate) looks reasonable but how much clearance do I need for the windshield bolts?

B. Do the flasher sockets go toward the front of the car or toward the driver? A pic would help.

C. Any easier or better locations you all have used?

Thanks, Jay

The fuses and flasher relays should point toward the driver. This way if you need to replace something, you can get to it.

I used a Ford Taurus flip-down fuse block holder readily available in junk yards. It works perfectly and you can rotate the fuse block upwards out of the way.

2FAST4U,
Do you mean you mounted it vertical? Do you have a pic?

johns427,
That sounds like a good idea. What year Taurus?
Also do you have a pic of the fuse block installed?

THanks, Jay

Jay,

I mounted my fuse box in the stock location but put a hinge on it so it can pull down for service. The stock location is right behind the 2x2 to the left of the steering column and pedal box. The stock mounting is horizontal but the hinge makes it vertical when needed. Very easy and accessible - just leave some extra wire so you can pull it down.

HI Jay,

Here's what I did. It was a Painless harness but I think your fuse box is the same general design. Maybe you could do something similar.

It mounts between the windshield bracket and the 3/4" square tube.

Jay-

I mounted it facing downward on the 3/4" tubing where the pedal box mounts (see picture)
