I have now been convinced by many people to install a heater. Some say don't use the FFR. I have heard good things of vintage air. Also where are good (inexpensive) places to buy them.
what heater should I use???

Paul, You can order direct from Vintage Air. #50615 VUH fits completely behind the dash so you don't cut through the firewall. You will have to move the dash hoop brace though I think. 1999 list price was $199. www.vintageair.com.

I used the compact vintage air unit and I have the entire unit between the dash and firewall. The only holes in the firewall are for the two heater hoses.
I did not have to move the support brace for the dash.
I also got the built in defroster with the heater and instead of running defrosters, I ran the defroster lines to the footboxes to provide additional heat.
I bought directly from Vintage Air, but you probably could save about $20-$30 if you find a reseller.

The Vintage Air heater can be purchased from Hot Rod USA for $183.
