Thursday, August 30th--This is a little long (36:10) but fascinating video made by the War Department during WWII. Some amazing shots of both the B-29's and the F-51 escorts, including air to air combat as well as strafing runs on anything that moved. I have seen other pictures of the landings at Iwo Jima and the resulting wrecks, and many of them were truly horrible in that you know the whole crew was killed. Even the fighter aircraft had a hard time landing there. I have flown the Guam and Saipan to Tokyo route many times and it took us a little over three hours by jet. The flights of the B-29's up and back was 3000 miles at 220 knots. Like the narrator says: "It's like flying from Mexico to Canada and back" for each bombing run. Paul :grape:
