I will be out with freinds this evening to a nice place that has valet parking. Small lot car would be in sight.

What do you do:

1) Toss the lad the keys and walk away?
2) Toss him the keys with instructions to return
them to you as you watch him park it?
3) Ask him where he wants you to park it?

Bueller...Bueller...anyone??

I do this with my Vette whenever I need to valet...ESPECIALLY being a stick shift...never ever trust a valet to drive a stick vehicle.

For the most part, they are very agreeable...if they want, tell them to hop in and let them escort you to the parking spot...most will also let you keep your keys.

FWIW

You can usually ride with the valet - or park your car in the lot yourself. Tip the guy well either way and they'll usually take really good care of your car.

um...if it was my car i would drop my date off at the door, have the valet man hop in the car then have him tell me where to park it. I would keep the keys in hand, throw the guy a nice a tip and tell him to watch the pipe ont he way out of the car.

By the way, where r you going Pat?

Eric,

So its ok to leave your date alone while you stay with the car!

It dawned on me that it may be a bad idea to tell you I am going to Bernards Ridgefield Inn over the internet as then the world would then know where my cobra will be tonight..................Damn, now I gotta take the minivan.

On a personal note. Your replacement sucks.

See you later.

what do you mean my replacemnt sucks? I am lost...also why should you make your date walk to the door of the restuarant, when you can drop her off in the front, then park the car then walk to the door yourself?

Pat - i missed your quarky sense of humor lately, and now that i am up at school, i guess i will have to be a victim over the internet.

Ok your right. Drop the date, park the car.

You had a job this summer.
Now you are back at school.
The person who replaced you at your summer job for the balance of the season sucks.

On another note: I have some weekend work you may be interested in helping out with for a few weekends this winter in Albany. Good bucks. Good hours. Drop me a line.

Unless the "girl" is my wife who pays the insurance! :D

As the weather was bad we took another car. When valet parking comes up I will ask and park it myself. I would put the Tonnaue cover on after its parked to prevent moisture on the seats so it does not look that cool to toss the valet the keys and then walk after him to the car to install the cover.

If the restaurant is nice enough to have valet parking they usually try to park the "finer" cars near the door - adds to the ambiance of the place. It may not be a Ferrari or MB, but most places will want it parked out front to get people's attention.

And ALWAYS tip the valet on the way in.

Uh, I'd recommend you park the car yourself. Unless there are places right out front where it can be left. I worked at a very fancy restaurant for 3 years as a valet when I was in college. I left in 1997, so it wasn't THAT long ago. I can honestly say that I was careful with customers cars, especially if they were good tippers on the way in. If it was a sports car, I definitely tasted some of the power (no dougnuts or anything, but just some hard pushes on the throttle). Rental cars...well...let's just say I repaved half of the streets with the rubber. But most of my fellow valets were even rougher. They would beat customers cars, especially stick shift cars. Physical damage was very rare, maybe 3-4 cars got dents out of the 15,000-20,000 cars or more that were parked when I was there. But engines and clutches were abused.

So I say, bring the Cobra, but don't let the valet have free reign with it.
