I decided to reclaim 50+ square feet of my shop by hanging the body and buck from the ceiling.

When you don't have friends to help, but you have a lift, you tend to get creative. Thanks to some ratcheting tie downs, some rope, a couple of 2x4's, and sawhorses, the body is now suspended about 8" from the ceiling on the 12' side. I basically made new supports for the buck, ran a 2x4 across the middle, then took the original platform off of the bottom. This probably cut 100lbs total off the weight. I could easily lift each corner with one hand, so I'm guessing the total weight is less than 150lbs, under 40lbs per corner, so the bike anchors will work just fine. The rope is heavy duty nylon.

I left the hood, trunk lid, and doors down to also limit the weight.

The only downside is that I have to back the suburban in so that I can clear the body and lift it up as far as it'll go. I changed the oil last night, and it worked perfectly. Backing in wasn't a big deal.

Wish I had room for a lift. I'm thinking about building the wood ramps that are discussed on this forum . . . that'll get me off the floor about a foot and it breaks down for "corner of the garage" storage.

Thanks, and NO, it's not real, although I do live in the country, and I could probably make it work. I just picked that thing up, it's from about 1958, which makes it period correct. It'll be going out front between the garage doors. I need to do some metal work on it, get some new plexi, and paint it, and it'll look awesome. The shop looks like an old garage.

It turned out nice, still going through all of my junk, which is fun.

BIG BLOCKER/Jets - direct lift actually sells a 2 post lift that you can put in with a 10' ceiling. It's got a floor support, but it'd get you there. I LOVE my lift though...boyhood dream, completely unnecessary, and just freakin' awesome.

I made my cieling storage system using a 120V winch, a bunch of pulleys, and some stainless steel cable. It's mounted to a 9" x 18" structural beam with huge lag bolts. With the pulley arrangement, I can install or remove the body by myself.

That's a nice one. I didn't go that advanced. I have an old treadmill motor that I could easily adapt into a winch, but with a budget of $0, I didn't want to mess with it or spend the money. The car budget is tight, so I'd rather not put money towards something I don't need to.

Great Idea, I got a lift called the Garage Gorilla from Costco, a while back. Made a light weight body buck, hooked the cables and away it goes. Here is a short video.
