I am currently "test" assembling my car.
Question: with the body (unpainted) aligned, is it possible to rivet the under door panels in, remove the body for painting, put it back in place with the under door panels still in?
Or am I calling for trouble?

Yes, it's very possible that's what I did.

Doug,

Did you rivet the panel touching the body on the outside or did you leave a gap inbetween?

Stefan,

Not quite sure I follow your question. I'm a little slow this morning trying to recoup from the DVSF event. All I can say is WOW. What I did was fit door pannels in place loosely, then install and fully mount body, snug panels best I could up to the body while keeping them squared and aligned to the frame members. Drilled and riveted in place. The bottom of the panels extended past the floor edge if that is the "gap" you are referring to. This is the only other pic I took that may show what I did a little better. Wish I had taken more/better pics but this is all I took.

My question is, does the outer side of the under door panels actually touch the fiber glass body?
Or did you leave a gap between the panels and the body?

Sorry for making you think on an early morning
, it's already evening here.

Stefan,

For the most part my panels touch the body. It's been a while since I did this so I was feeling a little fuzzy w/ the memory. I went out to the garage and jacked the car up to see from the underside. The panels do indeed touch the body, however, in my case I had to shim the body (rear body side mounts) out a bit w/ washers to better fit the doors flush w/ body side. I did this while final fitting body/doors after paint. I do have a gap (screw driver blade thickness) on the back side of the door panels where it meets the body. Wouldn't have it if I hadn't had to shim body out. Also, although, the door panels protrude farther out than the floor they don't stick out farther than the side mounting plates. Hope you can follow this.
