Has anyone used a Uhaul auto transport trailer to move their Cobra. I went to Uhauls web site and they said a Cobra will not fit on their trailer. So, if anyone has used this trailer please let me know. Mark

I used U-haul to move my 96 Mustang Cobra for AR to AZ. They also said it would not fit. They were refering to the clearance required under the car. I then told them I was moving an Explorer, that was fine. When I got the trailer I jacked up the front to decrease the "crown" then drove the car on. Hindsight says a tilt type trailer would be better. Side pipe width may be an issue. Be careful jacking the front up.

I had my roller (with body) on the trailer before taking the body/buck up to SRP's on the trailer. It will fit, unless your rear wheels (width and track) are too wide - I have 9.5's on the rear.

Biggest problem was clearance around the nose, getting over the wheel 'tracks' (channels?). I had to tilt the bed down at the rear but other than that it fit OK.

Why did they say it wouldn't fit?

I'd say John's picture says a thousand words. I once FOLLOWED a guy for 25 miles near Macinac Island in Michigan who was trailering one he bought in Canada back to Texas. When we hit construction we paced each other for thirty minutes while I screamed questions out the window at him. I thought it was great!!! Nice guy, super car (on a UHaul trailer). Don't think anyone behind me was too thrilled. . . . .

Hi Mark,

The problem is actually side pipe clearance. It's easy to get around though. All that needs to happen is when your front wheels are already on the trailer, the rear wheels need to be higher as they go up. All I did was put a 2x6 on each ramp that went about 2/3 of the way up the ramp and drove on without problems.

Good luck!

no problem - I hauled mine to Run & gun a few years ago on the uhaul trailer - I liked it! Pulled great, lightweight, tire wrapped up front and plenty of places to tie down the rear.

I have to disagree with the trailer being lightweight. I have to say that the u-haul trailer is over-kill for an FFR, because it's designed to carry all vehicles up to 1/2-ton pick-ups. The u-haul trailer has an empty weight of 2000 pounds!!! That's over-kill for a 2300 pound car. I'm sure that there are 1000-pound trailers that will do the same job for the FFR.

The u-haul is extra long too. To put the weight on the trailer’s tires and not excessively on the tongue you need to load the FFR backwards. This will center the engine over the back trailer wheels. (Although I’m sure this isn’t good for the windshield and wind-wings at highway speeds.) If the trailer allowed you to anchor the FFR 2 feet further back, it would be better.

So, what’s my point... I guess all I’m saying is that if I were to buy a trailer specifically for an FFR, I wouldn’t get the u-haul type, but it’s fine for a general purpose car trailer.

Just wanted to share this for the record. In terms of trailering kits, that trailer works great - just use some plywood! I did it on an Explorer bumper hitch (NOT RECOMMENDED!!!).
I also picked up my donor parts ON THE TRAILER AT THE SAME TIME...

Like any two times you call uhaul you'll get different answers each time you call. Uhaul has two types of trailers. You need the newer type and a knowledgable uhaul person will tell you that. They list cobras under the new type only. If they try to put you in an old type the computer will tell them no.I hauled cobra's with a uhaul with no problem and they sometimes have to be told what trailer i need.

Obvioulsy it fits fine... I, cuz I was getting close on the tow limit of my Nissan truck told them it was a Miata... about the closest thing in terms of weight and it was fine.

Hey Mark, I used one to transport my cobra to the alignment shop. The only thing I would suggest is to take a couple of short pieces of 2x8 to put under the end of the ramps. My sidepipes would have scraped without them. Bruce
