Todd:

I just recieved the "July Special" sidepipes.

They are not on the car, but I can post detailed pictures if you like.

The are works of art from an engineering perspective. All 4 pipes are loose from the side of the body to the block. They are slip fit into the sidepipes, and come with both ford exhaust patterns.

Lemme know, I'll fire them your way.

Nice job on the headers, but are you trying to scare something away with the color of your control arms? :D

Mike,
You're welcome! Those pipes are my favorite part of the build. They came and fit EXACTLY as advertised, and there has been only two minor problems with them. 1., I paid $1150, which was a screaming deal then, now they are $750, everyone should have them. 2., They are TOO quiet, at least for me, although my neighbors are happier. No fibreglas packing to blow out, and after ceramic coating, they run very, very cool to the touch.

Greg,

If you want some more noise, I'll sell ya my old pipes, *cheap*, as soon as I get my new Tristates pipes bolted onto the 351W!

My new pipes got here Friday, and they are beautiful! (Save a small ding on one tailpipe, that I think I can pound out).

Greg, your pipes were coated locally, right? Who did it and are you happy with it? I got mine uncoated so I could adjust them for the lowered motor mounts.

If you want noise I can make up a set of racing side pipes with no mufflers just the empty shell. these sound sweet. I can do a set of those for about 400.00 I can make them like the shorty side pipes on the dragon snake from back in the 60's also.I just sent a set to a guy in Fla.

Forrest,
I had Olympic Coatings in San Marcos do mine, and they turned out great, they do all of J. Bittle American's pipes. I see there is a guy who advertises in the back of the SoCal Shelby magazine, ETC coating, I think. I am very happy with Olympic's service and price, around $350 or $375 to do 8 tubes and 2 sidepipes, in black, so the silver would be less expensive.

Are there any good ceramic coaters in the Detroit area?

I found a guy who says he'll do headers and pipes for $350 and if I want shine I can polish them myself. Don't think I want to commit the time and effort at this stage of the build.

Is shipping them out the best route??

Thanks

Thanks for the replies all and thanks Greg for posting the pics. Hey, where's the Union Jack? :D I actually forgot you had them. How do Mike's pipes mount to the frame?

Todd,
There is a bracket welded to the pipe at the exact junction of the last 2X2 outrigger tube on the FFR frame. The bracket already has a hole drilled in it, just install your drill bit, go thru the tube and bolt them baby's on. I will have the "bones" on the car for the North Island Historic races in October, on my birfday, actually. Love the paint job on your ride, very cool.

Here are a couple of pictures of the Tristate headers and sidepipes that I installed on Boyd McMillans FFR2224.

Thanks Don. These seem to sit a bit lower to the ground than the FFR pipes. Does anyone have other pictures on a finished car.

Mike,

How many of those "discs" are inside the pipes as baffles ? Are they the only sound baffles ?
They sure are quiet but sound great!

They aren't really discs.

The mufflers inside the sidepipes are "Auger" style. Think post hole digger without the center shaft.

There is no fiberglass or anything but steel in the mufflers, so nothing to blow out.

They look "friggin' awesome."

The pipes look low because the car is sitting in the grass, they are not lower than the frame.

Mike: Thanks for making the best exhaust system bar none for the FFR, truly a work of art.
