The T-5 is made by Borg Warner, and was used in a lot of cars, both Ford and Chevy. It was used in everything from economy 4 cylinders to Mustangs and Camaro's. It's a pretty good transmission, and can befairly strong depending on the model. If you're running a fairly stock 351W, a "World Class" T-5 should hold up fine in such a light weight car.
Tremec is a different company who makes essentially performance versions of the T-5. The 3550 is very strong, and has a slightly lower first gear ratio than the T-5. The TKO is the next step up, and is made for brute strength. It's rated at 450 ft/lb or torque - that's a lot.
You can also get different fifth gear ratios with the TKO. Standard is .68 just like a T-5. But you can also get a .82 ratio.
There is a 6 speed transmission available from both Ford and Tremec. It has an additional OD gear, so it has both .82 and .68. It's used in the new Cobra Mustang, and the Corvette. It's larger and heavier, and more difficult to fit in the FFR. Personally, I don't see the advantage.
I'm using a Tremec TKO with 0.68 fifth in my car. Install and forget. Like Brendan said. Check Mike Forte's web site for a boatload of tech specs.
