In the manual it says to rivet the sides of the tranny tunnel a while back. When it comes time to rivet the tranny tunnel cover, or bolt it in, where is everyone doing this from? The sides already have rivets. I guess it's possible from the top, but does that mean your cutting the sides of the tranny cover to avoid rattling?

That's what I ended up doing. My tunnel cover didn't fit very well, so I just cut off the sides and riveted it to the top.

I had to trim the tunnel cover (top) on one end and rebent the angel slightly. Rather than rivet it in I used some button head screws so I can remove the panel if need be. I then insulated the whole interior of the car and will put the carpet on top of this so there will be no evidence of the button heads bulging under the carpet. If I do get a buzz or two I can go back and add some additional screws.
