I figured I should check the timing since I
had the distributor out..

Even though the engine seems to idle perfect,
I can see the timing mark jumping back and
forth about 10 degrees or so.. The engine was
completly warmed up and I didn't notice any end play
on the dist shaft. The worm gear looks good...

Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

Take the center bolt out of the balancer. Thenb grab it and shake it around. If there's any movement at all, take it off and inspect the key and key way.

it's the little square "plug" in the wire harness that goes to the distributor....maybe 1/2" x 3/4" rectangular gizmo. Pull it out to check base timing (that removes computer control of timing). Should be rock steady w/ the spout out.

like Richard said, that is normal with the spout in.
