Can someone decipher a timing chain part # for me? I need to know if this is the standard Mustang 5.0 timing chain cover or not
Thanks Mike

F87E

F-Decade of 1990
8- actual year
7- usually model line for part (Mustang, Lincoln, etc.)
E- engine family part

This means it is a 1998 engine part. Since the '98 Mustang was a mod motor this must be from an Explorer. That's the only vehicle in '98 that still used the 5.0...

Typical Mustang timing covers are in the E5 or E8 range, not F8...

HTH...

BTW, just found these PNs on a Stangnet post about Windsor swaps:

'93 and older small-block timing cover Ford PN E3AE-6019-A

'94 and newer small-block timing cover Ford PN F1SE-6P041-AB

Of course these are the service part numbers and not the engineering number you are reading...
