Thanks Ken, it's pretty complete. The color sanding part is still not clear though.

There are 3 products listed:

Perfect-It 3 Rubbing compound
Perfect-It 3 Machine glaze
Perfect-It 3 Finishing compound

You've really only discussed 2 of them, and the term "compound" is used interchangably between the Rubbing and Finishing.

Would you mind describing the steps for those 3 items again?

Advil and others,

I am currently using the Perfect It 3 products listed here. They work really well and are easy to use. There is a video on the 3M site that explains their use pretty good. I used 1500 and then 2000 and then the rubbing compound on the white foam compound pad. Start slow with medium pressure, then as it dries use light pressure and more speed(1400-1800). It brings a great shine, but has swirl marks. The machine glaze is next on the black foam polishing pad and it removes the swirls. Then the finishing glaze for even more gloss and a little protection until time to wax. I also got one of 3M's yellow detailing cloths that works really well to remove the finishing glaze when it dries. I was hesitant at $6, but it is great.

I am sure everyone has a different way of doing these final steps, but this works for me.

I am just about complete with seams using the "SRP" methodology. Ken has been a great resource and so far the work has not been overwhelming or intimidating.

The FAQ was a wonderful thing to see.. I was working on the "as-I -Go" scribe of what I was doing but that post summed it all up real nice!

I have really appreciated all of the info on the forum. Several weeks ago I purchased the West Sytem products after hearing that it was the best way to go on finishing the body. SRPs guidelines are very well done. Can someone do something similar using the West System products for those of us already committed?

The video from North Cobras shows the West products very well. Well worth the frogs.

DA is short for Dual-Action Sander.. 6" air power is quite common.. the sanding disk makes a random orbit rather than just round and round.. Supposed to allow user to NOT burn through so easy.. hahhaha I proved that theroy quickly..Cheap at the discount places but uses a lot of air....

Reall not needed after you cut the seams down. THe gel coat is so thin a power tool in the wrong hands could make a mess... (yes this is from personal experience)
