I have a 302 EFI motor with stock gauges. The temp gauge was working fine then slowly dropped off now doesn't move. Is there a way to check the gauge and the sending unit?

I put a Ohm meter on the sending unit and recorded the following: 29ohms (cold), 11.5ohms (hot) 5.6vdc on the red wire to the sending unit when ignition is on.

The resistance between the terminal on the sender and ground should vary with temperature. 74 Ohms should put the stock gauge on the cold mark. 10 Ohms should put it on the hot mark. To see if the gauge is still functional, simply remove the wire from the sender. The gauge should stay on cold. Next, ground the sender wire. The gauge should peg to the hot end of the scale. Have you checked the wires going to the gauge to make sure you have power and ground at the gauge?
