I'm looking for someone in the Central Virginia region who has built and registered a street worthy roadster to answer some questions concerning problems I will probably encounter with Virginia DMV. I would like to build a fairly basic car, carbureted 302 (crate motor from a reputable builder), minimal if not zero emissions equipment, manual steering rack etc. Can anybody give me the benefit of their experience or point me in the direction of a club in the Richmond area?

Do it; we are here to help. I have no emissions and manual steering, 302EFI with some goodies; love the set-up. You really need to talk to folks in your area (with cobra replicas) and fully understand Virginia DMV regs before you make the jump. If you can live with their rules, ORDER. Seriously, though, put a reasonable budget together and build the car; you can always go bananas later when you win the lottery.
