You have to disconnect the wires running to that Russ Thompson turn signal unit, then look under the dash and there should be 3 screws w/nuts holding it onto the car frame. Once all of that is disconnected, it should slide off. You may also have to pull it out most of the way, and remove that trim ring before the entire unit slides off completely.

Took another peek at your pic and looks like I may have forgot a step! Is that silver hub that the steering wheel was screwed onto just resting on the steering shaft, or is it still firmly pressed on? If its still bolted on and wedged onto the steering shaft, it has to be pulled off before the column can be removed. When I pulled mine off, I left the wheel installed, removed the center bolt, and then yanked on the wheel to get the hub assembly off (taking care not to slam myself in the face with it).
