Phoenix took a rest this weekend, with Mother's Day and family activities getting priority over car work time. No rides or starts yet. Plumbing almost all completed, one more AN fitting to pick up today, and I need a flaring tool. Wiring is slowing me down, as I'm really inept and have to puzzle through each wire before hookup. Brakes are DONE and awesome-looking. Radiator and Battery are IN. Trying to connect mission-critical systems so I can drive it, then do the other stuff later...Doug Huey (the voice of the master-builder must be heeded) keeps telling me to take it easy and not be in a hurry...I'm kinda trying to finish in the next two weeks, and plan to finish the punch list later. Latest pics are posted on the Phoenix site, or the alternate site if it's not working, see addresses with my signature. Diary will be updated soon, I'm told. THANKS for asking about our cool project, it'll be there, just a little delayed!

Jeff, I still love your flame job (not to ignore all the other work you did on this thing!)and it draws people in like bees to honey. Lots of drive-by stop-ins, mostly from seeing the Phoenix siting outside the garage on the body buck! Progress is steady, little slower with al lthe family activities lately, but still shooting for start up and go-cart in a week or so. Drop in ANYTIME, or I'll be forced to drive her up there to see you! BTW, I agree with you on the Jim Ergler P/S pump mount, an awesome, rare, simple, elegant piece!

John,
I'm giving you plenty of time until August 10th, BIG Cobra Bash at my house. This could be your big trip across the state.

Will do Dino. I'm usually down twice a year doing a "goodwill tour" visiting friends and family. Next trip I'll get Jim and we'll all meet up then storm Phillips' place, eat his food, drink his beer and trash his garage!
Oh, wait, we've already done that. :D
See ya,
Jeff

Hey, next get-together we'll be back in our regular home, all rebuilt and shiny new. Be sure to let me know when you plan to come back down Jeff, maybe we can get all the usual suspects rounded up for a Roadster fest, and all try out the Phoenix.

Dino, I was just working under the engine tonight, and there was all that aluminum you shined up and clear-coated, reflecting all the light I needed under the car...and I had to be careful not to mess it up while I was thrashing around down there! Thanks for all the hard work, AND for trying to get me to class up my build. It really DOES look nice all shiny and clean.

John...do me a BIG favor...PLEASE!!! The rear upper firewall panel needs to be re-clearcoated. I ran out halfway through...and you never brought anymore :( At least get some acetone and wipe it down and repolish it...PLEASE!! Also the passenger side "F" panel needs a touch up...from where it was dropped  (thought I didn't see that, huh??) And then there's that undercoating...... ;) dino

Deane, what did you all use to clearcoat the panels after you polished them?

Dude, we'll be living back on the dirt road in about four months...the Phoenix will look like a junkyard dog after a tractor pull as soon as rainy season muddies up the road...honest, nobody'll EVER notice an F-panel boo-boo! BUT, I PROMISE, that as soon as there's NOTHING else to do that'll make it driveable, I'll make it pretty on the F-panel and the firewall. Undercoat? Well, how 'bout I just drive real fast through the mud and splash it up there?

John...drive real fast and splash up mud for undercoatind???? Heck, that's what I do everyday with THE BEAST!!! :D Jim...since we were in a big hurry, we polished the panels with Pro Liquid Buffer (GREAT STUFF!!) and then just sprayed them with Plasticoat Clearcoat. Most panels came out nice...some need more work...but I ain't fightin' John to make them thataway!!! ;) dino

Jim, before I hit the sack, I'll tell ya what I'd do if I had time and really wanted it shiny for all time. I'd shine it up with Pro Liquid Buffer, get it all nice and predrill all the rivet holes using lots of Cleko's, then take all the panels that are in sight after the car's done (engine compartment stuff, firewall, footbox walls, trunk floor) and get em powder coated clear. OR, you could just wipe off the aluminum lettering, and leave it natural like I did with #1152 and be happy as a clown too. See ya!

Just to let you guys know the kind of person Bill really is.....he found out I used all my Pro Liquid Buffer at John Phillips build..and sent me a new bottle...no charge. I honestly tried to pay for it..but Bill wouldn't have it. That shows me that he truly has the "Cobra...err FFR spirit!!". Thanks Bill, you're a heck of a guy and I DO appreciate it!!! dino
