There are 2 wires connected to the starter. A thicker one and a smaller black one with a funky connector. These both connect to the starter relay. Which post does each wire connect to?

John's site illustrates a Painless harness and a Ford mini-starter. I think Dan is using a donor harness and stock starter. John's excellent schematic is irrelevant in this case.

Dan ,
If you are using a stock Ford Starter, the one on the later Mustangs, sometimes called a High-Torque starter, the big wire is the power that comes direct from the battery via a common "bat" post on the "starter relay".

The little wire is the control wire that the relay triggers, which in turn triggers the solenoid that is internal to the starter.

At least thats the way the 1995 one works.
