Happy New Year Folks!! :beerchug:

I'm doing some research for a replacement top for my roadster and seeing if there's one out there. Mine was purchased when I bought my kit in 2006 from FFR and I hate say it, but I did a really bad job. It began to rip/tear after a year or 2 and decided to save the frames, hoping for a replacement.
...Can't find one just yet. My idea is to find the top, get it and have a professional do it this time. And at the same time, have them do my tonneu top as well, using the same mounting hardware. Right now, I'm seeing how much all this will cost me before I make the plunge.

Any help or ideas will be graciously welcomed. Thanks! :yes:

My thoughts exactly...a good restoration shop can do it AND make your cover to boot!

x3 Agree it would probably be cheaper to have a new canvas made by a local shop that does top work, than going the $1600+ for a complete new top kit + the install labor. They could more than likely use the old one for a basic pattern.

I wouldn't think they can do it considering the rear window material. I'll call up the upholstery guy yhat I know on wednesday!

Soft Tops

Most Upholstry shops that deal in automotive work can make a new cover for your frame. They have a material called Haartz Cloth that has a colored fabric outside, a rubber inner and a colored (and sometimes textured) fabric inside. The alternative is a fabric that is much the same except the outer layer is Vinyl.

Since the old fabric is likely weathered it might not be the best to use for a pattern, but more as a guide. You can put it in on and point out the places you want it to "fit better" showing where the snaps and other connections need to be. Most upholsterers I have kown have done it before (not necessarily on an FFR) and can do a great job.

The soft plastic that is used for the back window is a common product for them, they use it in several different types of tops, it just sews in place.

If your frames are in good repair I'd go with a good upholstry shop that deal in automotive or boat upholstry. Possibily have your frames cleaned and repainted or powder coated. Well worth the effort.
