I hve heard that the boot gets in the way and doesnt allow the tranny to fully click into gear. Take the boot off and try it.

If it turns out not to be the boot, this can be caused by worn selector forks. This will entail a rebuild.

I had this happen to me in 1st, 3rd and 5th. It ended up being the rubber shifter boot. I switched it out for a leather one and alls fine

Make sure the hole is large enough to allow the shifter to go all the way in to gear. I have had this problem before when you put the shifter in gear make sure it does not contact the alum. ;)
