I have dual roll bars and I am thinking of putting small brilliant stop lights on them. Does anybody have a source for these lights? Has anybody done this?

Thanks

Sounds like a great idea, let me know what you come up with!

I have been considering the same thing and would like some guidance too.

A lot of the street rod guys run a third brake light on the Liscense plate light. Just a thought. If you do get it on the roll bar it would be more visible but has the potential to be a little less than attractive if not done correctly. Cheers Richard.

Why hasn't anyone made a roll-bar mounted headrest, that is small and looks good and might save your noggin' from getting smashed against the hard rollbar? Someone might even be able to integrate the third-brakelight into it. I know I would buy one in a heartbeat.

In the process of building a kit just for that. Will have pictures up by Friday. Using ultrabright LEDs in a small Aluminum housing. No screw showing just a little aluminum circle with a dark center until you step on the brakes.

Steve, John Phillips had a roll bar headrest on his first car (pre-crispy critter). I was going to do the same with the LEDs built in. Never got around to it. I'm having too much fun driving :D

The vulnerability of the back of my head while touring without a helmet came to mind before I took delivery of my kit. I welded two steel tabs with two screw holes each to the inside of the rollbar where the back of my head normally would reach. I paddes and upholstered a piece of plywood and attached it with stainless steed screws. Pics are on FFR owners gallery. The brake lights are an interesting idea.

I'm using the full width rollbar and decided to include a third brake light at the center. I've designed a pocket to hold the light and am machining out an opening into the rollbar at the proper angle for the pitch.

The pocket will sit into the rollbar opening and will be beveled and welded so that it is both flush and recess with just a 1/4" sticking out. I look at it as a nice safety feature because the tail lights are so low.

Check here for the light I've purchased: http://www.jcwhitney.com/productnoitem.jhtml?CATID=46330&BQ=jcw2

Hopefully I'll have the machine work done this weekend and then get the pocket welded in to give the final assembly an equal strength. Then the whole thing will be chromed.

I have thought about this very same thing for my full length roll bar. My only concern is that sanctioning bodies (SCCA, NHRA) would invalidate the rollbar if it was cut in to. Anybody have any insight into this aspect? I was considering a simple bolt on that would require only 3 small holes to be drilled - 2 for mounting screws, one for the wire.

I also thought about adding small turn signal LED's on each corner of the roll bar, but not too sure about that one.
