Just my 2 cents, but I don't care for them. If your looking to make the cobra safer your going to have to do more then put extra lights on it. I like the orginal look of a cobra, not a more the modern /safe look some cars have. If you like the lights keep them, don't worry about everyone else - IT'S YOUR RIDE, ENJOY IT!!!! ;) Chris

I take it you haven't had anyone try to drive a minivan up your ass yet. :D The tail lights on these things are not even close to being in the same league as the modern tail lights that people are looking for. Anything you can do to make yourself more visible helps. After nearly being rear ended twice last summer I'm planning on adding an LED bar to my license frame. Looks fine to me Richard.

John, If you get nervous with a minivan behind you I can't imagine how you would feel riding on the back of my Harley. Motorcycles/Cobras are not safe vehicles no matter what you add to them, WHY- because some idiot with his head up his a** will plow right into you if you have lights or not. My cobra is 100 times safer than my bike without any extra lights/bumpers/horns/orange flags. I'm not riding a bike or driving a cobra to be safe, I'm doing it to have fun and enjoy the time I have on this planet.

P.S. If you like the lights and feel safer with them then go for it. Chris

Yea, like it matters what the flock I have on the back of my car, I could have 5 1000watt red bulbs on there and these yahoos down here will still manage to find a stoopid arse way of tagging my car with an 81 olds.

Richard, I was hit from behind on South I-95 yesterday while driving home from the FFR event at Whitby's. The Quebec driver who hit me was not paying attention when all the traffic came to a complete stop. I was thinking about how to wire up some high brake lights all the rest of the way home. I LIKE your setup. The only thing I would change would be to have curved LED's that might match the arc of the roll hoop top (if available). Where did you get yor hardware, and what would I need to do to wire up a similar setup? I am an electrical moron, so ya gotta be slow and simple with the explanation! Thanks a million.

More on the serious side than my previous post....

I had a "priority plus" system on my ST1100 (motorcycle) that worked extremely well.
When the brake was applied, the brake lights would still come on, but in addition, the two signal lights in the rear flashed simultaneouly about 5 times, then stayed on steady with the rear brake light.
117,000 miles on the bike and I've never been rear-ended!

It will be on my Cobra. I'm trying to find a link.....

I think this thread went awry!

Rich, Good job on coming up with yet another mod.

Everyone else...to each their own. I'm sure there will be takers and non takers. But let's acknowledge that Rich is just sharing another idea.

There that's better I feel the love already!

John,
They are surface mount Leds 1/2" by 3 3/4". The company is Hitech Productions, 818-887-0137. They do not have curved ones. Easy to wire up. One wire goes to a ground, the other wire splices into your brake light wire in the rear harness some where. The directions are to drill a 1/4 inch hole. The wires go through the hole and then the led unit is pressed into the hole. It fits very tightly. You also drill a 1/8 hole to one side for a stabilizing nub.

Pete,
I did not cut the roll bar at all, although if they had not been chromed I might have machined a flat surface. I buttered the back of the led unit with silcone and cleaned up the edge to compensate for the curve in the roll bar. It actually looks pretty good.
