I was buying some extra rivets at Home Depot for my footbox additions and found little washers to be used with rivets (they are made by Arrow and stocked with the Arrow rivets). I bought a few boxes. They look interesting for aluminum-to-aluminum connections because they can help spread the stress of the rivet. From what I can see, you put the rivet through the aluminum panels and the washer on the back of the rivet. When you pull the rivet, it should grab the washer abd pull it tight to the panels. Heven't tried it yet but it looks like a good idea.

Anybody ever use these?

They do make for a stronger connection... I used them on my race cars.
The only problem that I can see is the very short 1/8" rivets may not have enough length to go through 2 sheets of aluminum and a washer. You may need to buy slightly longer rivets...

I used them on things like the steering shaft cover which I mounted on the inside of the footbox. When you mount the cover on the inside I figured the rivet would pull right thru the fiberglass. The washers prevent this from happening.
