I have a '93 5.0L with an Explorer intake.
The s-bend on the throttle cable bothers me and I've read several failures with this setup.
Has anyone switched the setup on the EFI to operate from the front instead of the back, providing a smoother "U" bend? (I've seen them turn the carb around and run it in a similar fashion, but I know this isn't possible with a standard EFI setup, but it looks like the pivot could be moved to the other side.)

Can you post some pictures / links / how-to's on your setup, please?

Thanks!

I mounted mine from the front so the bend was U shaped instead of an S. Worked pretty well, here are some pics. the carb has been replaced with a Holley but it still hooks up exactly the same.

You can grind off the swedge and flip the throttle body lever over and braze/weld it back on, but you'll need to fab your own throttle cable mount for the front side of the intake/throttle body.

Rich A, yes Explorer TB, 65mm. It was on there when I bought it, I didn't change it.

Mustang Man, that's what I had in mind, trying to figure out if it's a good idea (has anyone done it) and how they did it.

I really don't like the S-bend the t-cable takes, but I know it's been done thousands of times before, but that doesn't mean there's not a better way. :001_rolleyes:

Used the explorer TB and elbow on mine.
Modified the stock explorer bracket, basically trimmed off parts of the bracket i didn't need and drilled a hole to mount the cables treaded end to. Too easy.
No welding needed.
The FF cable makes one big curve, from the firewall towards the front of the engine, connects to the bracket and to the TB.

Here's an old picture, you can see the stock bracket.

Rich, THANKS! your explanation is what I'm after.

My intake doesn't have the elbow you're showing. My TB is mounted on the intake and it looks like there is some kind of aftermarket aluminum spacer added (as i said, this is the way i bought it).

I think I'll take the TB off tonight and study it and the bracket a little better.

If anyone has any more pictures, I'd appreciate your input.
