275 is the recommended width.

Some owners have modified the frame to accept 315's. It's not the axle length, it's the frame that interferes.

I can only speak for 15" rims. With the proper backspacing, you can run 295/50's on an uncut axle, but you'll get occasional body rub on a hard dip. For "no rub", 275/50's are the biggest you can go.

I have 285/40-18's on 9.5 inch rims with 6.5" backspace. Rear end is standard Fox (60" face to face on the axles).

Happy motoring

As a data point for tire fits under the IRS (I realize this is about live axle setup) the T-Bird is 63 3/4" wide right out of the car as I tape measured it. I got mine today (ordered kit yesterday)

Wheels and tires are one of my biggest concerns. Want older HB period style, maybe 17", but it appears to be a callenge to get the right look.

I am running BFG 285x40x17" rims on the solid axle set-up with rear discs..

Only issue was no quad shocks I have coil overs that are at this point handling the hop issue
