I've installed my rear axle, and now I'm rebuilding my rear drum brakes. I've gotten all new hardware, but I've run into a problem. When I try to insert the hold down pins, they don't grab. Aren't the holes supposed to be oval? Mine appear to be round. Any solutions other than new backing plates? Am I screwed? (Seem to be saying that a lot lately...hmmm)

Never heard of any that you dont just push thru and rotate a .25 turn.

later

AFTER THINKING FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES....

Most/Some push thru from the back, thru the hole in the shoe, and then you put a slotted sheet metal washer on from the front, with the spring under that washer. so, the hole in the backing plate would be round....

Wow, what an idiot! I took them apart a few months ago, and forgot how they went! I was trying to push them from the front, turning them to lock in the backing plate! You saved me again guys! Thanks.
