I'm installing the rear axle ('90 Mustang donor). The assembly manual shows what appears to be an older variant of the upper control arm mounts... no mention of the three holes I have to choose from. Any advice on which hole to start with? Also, I'm curious about the substantial chunk of cast iron bolted on below the pinion, a vibration damper I presume. Keep it or toss it? Thanks

I remember reading about this on the forum and at the time I decided to use the middle holes for now. Do a search and you will find your answer.

As far as the the weight. I did a search on corral.net sometime ago and found out it was a counterweight calibrated to be used with the gear setup in your rear. If you change your gearing its void. The advice on the corral was to ditch it. I tend to think Ford would not engineer and install if it did not have a good purpose even if we don't know what it was designed to do.
