I have a 4.6l 4v engine, I am looking to replace it with a 351w - would I be able to use the headers on the 4.6l for the 351w?

I have long tube headers on it ATM

Likely not. 351 has a higher deck, thus needs longer headers.

Boy the 4.6L didn't last long. Good luck on the 351W. Is the engine ready to run or does it need a rebuild? If a rebuild is in order, consider a stroker upgrade as it 363, 393, 408.
In moving from the 4.6L, I believe the modular engine mounts are different from the SBFs.

Yes, I believe you’ll need to move your mounts with this swap.
And possibly a different driveshaft length

Yes they do. Call them and also mention which trans you will be using.

Headers, engine mounts and the big one is the transmission &/or bell housing. If it was built using a T-45 for a 4.6 the transmission’s integral bell won’t mate to a pushrod engine. If it was built with a 3650 or r TKO the trans could be used but the bell housing would have to be changed.

Thanks for all the information, the transmission is 3650.

I am still deciding on what I want to do, the 4.6 spun a bearing so have to pull it anyway.

How hard is it to remove the body on am MK3?

Remove:
Doors
Hood
Trunk lid
Sidepipes
Bumpers
Roll bars
Windshield
Splash panels
Radiator aluminum
Disconnect light wiring and wipers if applicable
Remove 4 bolts in the nose
Remove 4 bolts down each side
Raise the rear, go forward, raise the front and take it away!

I can go from complete car to body off in about 2-3 hours—-but I’ve done it a hundred times. All that said it is possible to R&R engine with the body on.

Agree. Don't even think about the body. We see most guys using an engine hoist but to me they offer as many problems as they solve. I use a come-a-long from an eye in the ceiling. BUT really important, either way, is a good engine leveler. Especially if you pull engine/trans as one unit, it needs to make substantial changes in the angle it hangs looking at it from the side. And you need to be able to change the angle w/ the 6-700#s hanging from the leveler.

Do a search for engine removals from the cobra. Lots of advice out there. I did my swap using an engine hoist, a leveler, and a small floor jack under the transmission with a minimum of problems. Take the front wheels off and drop the front end for a better angle. Have a couple of buddies help.

The TR3650 has a integral bellhousing with the case, can't be separated, The transmission was designed for Ford modular engines. So not designed to be used with other engines.
